Superhero Cake!

This is a 3 tier, 10-inch, 8-inch and 6-inch cake. It is covered and decorated in marshmallow fondant with buttercream bottom borders and buttercream web on the top tier. Batman is sculpted from mmf (the gray portion of his body has a foil center to make him lighter and hold his shape better). The spider, hulk hand and Superman logo are hand made from mmf. This was a very fun cake to make... it had a lot of steps to finish it, and I don't have time to blog them all right now. If you are interested in making a similar cake or have questions, feel free to email me. 2. Thank you! I sculpted the palm and fingers separately out of marshmallow fondant and glued them together with a little water. I highlighted (or antiqued) the details by brushing it with a mixture of brown coloring and vodka.

  3. Hi, I just came across your blog and let me tell you, you have an amazing talent and eye for detail. I was wondering how do you get your marshmallow fondant so red? Thank you for your time. God Bless You.

  4. Thank you for your comment! I use LOTS of Wilton Red-Red food coloring gel to get my fondant red. I will tell you I don't like working with red fondant b/c there is so much coloring in it that the texture is different...red fondant is not as elastic as the other colors and tends to tear and dry out faster. The only remedy of sorts I have found is to warm it in the microwave prior to covering a cake... warm it slightly, knead it, roll it out, let it cool just a bit, then cover the cake with it before it completely cools. The warm red fondant is easier to stretch and cover a cake than cool fondant. Hope that helps!
